If the City Council does not adopt a Resolution to refute or reject or redo the salary figures, the recommended increases will automatically become in effect come July 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.khon2.com\/local-news\/testimony-on-proposed-pay-raise-for-honolulu-mayor\/\">KHON2<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Salary Commission adopted these schedule of salaries listed for the upcoming fiscal year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Honolulu mayor: $209,856&nbsp;<\/li><li>Council chair: $123,292&nbsp;<\/li><li>Council members: $113,292<\/li><li>Prosecuting attorney: $198,888<\/li><li>First deputy prosecuting attorney: $189,096<\/li><li>Managing director: $200,712<\/li><li>Deputy managing director: $190,296<\/li><li>Corporation council: $192,864<\/li><li>First deputy corporation council: $183,220<\/li><li>Deputy heads: $187,488<\/li><li>Deputy department heads: $177,888<\/li><li>Police chief: $231,648<\/li><li>Deputy police chiefs: $220,944<\/li><li>Fire chief: $224,304<\/li><li>Deputy fire chief: $213,912<\/li><li>Medical examiner: $363,151<\/li><li>Deputy medical examiner: $354,161<\/li><li>Band director: $177,888<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>During the hearing before the recommendations were decided these testimonies were said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo actually give councilmembers who are at the office three times a week at the most a lot of them \u2014 a 90% pay increase? It\u2019s just ignorance in my opinion and I cannot see that happening,\u201d testified Alfred Medeiros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery day citizens never receive 100% pay increases that\u2019s beyond greedy. It makes you look very corrupt,\u201d testified Jasmine Torres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi also testified at the Salary Commission:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countrytalkstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screen-Shot-2023-03-06-at-2.34.36-PM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2698\" width=\"362\" height=\"324\" srcset=\"http:\/\/countrytalkstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screen-Shot-2023-03-06-at-2.34.36-PM.png 599w, http:\/\/countrytalkstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Screen-Shot-2023-03-06-at-2.34.36-PM-470x421.png 470w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 362px) 100vw, 362px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThey took pay cuts and they stepped up to the plate at a time when most people didn\u2019t even want to think about what was going to happen,\u201d said Blangiardi. \u201cThis was courageous on their part. I\u2019ve been so humbled and inspired by them, and the work that they put in.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mayor&#8217;s Managing Director<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/michael-formby-2730504\"> Mike Formby<\/a> also testified:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/countrytalkstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-09-at-1.54.28-AM-688x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2905\" width=\"293\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"http:\/\/countrytalkstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-09-at-1.54.28-AM-688x1024.png 688w, http:\/\/countrytalkstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-09-at-1.54.28-AM-624x929.png 624w, http:\/\/countrytalkstory.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-09-at-1.54.28-AM.png 756w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cI think those people deserve a right to move into leadership roles but they\u2019re not gonna move into the leadership rules,\u201d said Mike Formby, city managing director. \u201cIf they have to take a pay cut&nbsp;it just doesn\u2019t make sense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There have been a lot of complaints on social media and at the Salary Commission Hearing about the 64% pay raise for the Honolulu City Council.
