(Submitted photo)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u2014Nick Grube<\/em><\/p>\n (De)Occupy Honolulu isn\u2019t the only one suing<\/a> the City and County of Honolulu over infringement of free speech rights.<\/p>\n On Tuesday, North Shore resident Choon James filed a lawsuit against the city for tearing down signs she had put up on her property to protest a municipal eminent domain case she\u2019s involved in.<\/p>\n What\u2019s interesting is that both James and (de)Occupy\u2019s complaints involve the same law \u2014 the city\u2019s stored property ordinance<\/a>. This controversial law allows city officials to seize personal belongings from public property after providing 24 hour notice.<\/p>\n For (de)Occupy this meant city officials clearing tents from the sidewalks along Thomas Square in downtown Honolulu.<\/p>\n In James\u2019 case, she says the city came onto her private property with heavy machinery to yank two signs out of the ground, one that read \u201cEminent Domain Abuse Who\u2019s Next?\u201d and another that said, \u201cYOUTUBE: Eminent Domain Abuse Hawaii.\u201d\u00a0 http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VaFawyE43Ww<\/p>\n Meanwhile, she claims other nearby signs, including those using political speech, remain.<\/p>\n James is being represented by Richard Holcomb, the same attorney who represents (de)Occupy Honolulu.<\/p>\nHonolulu Faces Another Free Speech Lawsuit Related to Stored Property Law<\/a><\/h1>\n
